Gray water tank Winterizing
#1
I have a 98 Tiara 3500 Express with the gray water tank in the engine room.
What does everyone do for winterizing this tank?

How I winterize my fresh water system is I run the fresh water tank dry. Then I put my hot water tank in bypass mode and drain it. Then I use a blow out plug connected to the shore water connection and an air compressor set at 20 psi. Open the furthest faucet and let it run until air comes out. Repeat for all faucets (hot and cold) and the head. Then I put 2-3 gallons of the rv pink antifreeze (potable) into the fresh water tank and let it run thru the pump to all faucets and head. The air compressor step may be over kill, but I've never had a problem with this process.

Make sure you pump out your holding tank before haulout.

Misdirection, why use compressor/air if you will be using non-toxic anti-freeze?

Just to clear the lines and not have any or minimal water mix with the pink.

I used to use the air compressor only and not run pink thru the lines, but I just play it safe now.

I've been using a compressor to blow out the fresh water lines for more than 20 years (31 Open & 38 Open) and have never had a problem. Use a similar procedure as described in a prior post.....Tried the pink stuff originally and it always left a taste/smell after being taken out... Most of the boats in the marina have switched to the compressor method and none to my knowledge had a problem either.... We live in the Northeast where temps in the winter regularly go down in the teens.. Works for me and no smell/taste in the spring

I believe Jpendejo's question was for the gray water tank not the fresh water system. On my 41 Open I simply take the half cover off the gray water tank, pour in a little Simple Green and scrub it out with a rag. Then flush the tank out by running it through a few cycles with fresh water. I assume the 35 Express has the same set up on the gray water tank where you can remove half of the cover. One note, prior to cleaning the gray water tank I also clean out the shower sump making sure the pump impellor is clean from any debris as well. Good luck.
