I own a 29 tiara and was thinking about installing Radar. I have never installed radar, and was wondering how difficult it was installing the radar dome on a hard top and running the cable.

It's not difficult if you are handy with tools and can snake the cable up to the display. Make sure you mount it on a 5 degree down angle to account for the vessels bow rising when running. What are your wiring skills? Capt. George

Thanks for the reply, I'm okay with wiring, my concern is fishing the cable from the display to antenna.

You mentioned 5 degree down angle, why 5? most of the mounts I've seen have 4 degree.

4 degrees, 5 degrees, what ever. Use an inclinometer from Harbor Freight to measure the bow rise if you want to be dead on. All boats are different. The object is to have the radar beam level with the water when running. Capt. George

As the majority of radar antenna's have an approx 25 degree vertical beam width I don't think there will be a significant impact to performance between 4 degrees and 5 degrees. The only impact is range accuracy and I don't believe that will be significant either.... So a target at 1/4 mile will appear slightly further away or closer, based on the angle, the target will appear on your display and will require vigilance by the boat operator.... At longer ranges the error increases somewhat but again, based on distance, should not be critical and will be detected by the radar. Again vigilance by the boat operator is required........ M2C
