On top of the holding tank is a vent filter which is to be changed each year.  I have a replacent cartridge   One end was real easy to get off the other confused me. Instead of tearing everything up I thought I'd ask. This is a picture of the end that goes into the tank [img]http://[Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register][/img]

Hard to tell from the picture but kind of looks like a threaded insert. I would try to unscrew and see if that does it. Don't see any other way it can attach but then again, I might be missing something you can't see in the photo.

Both ends should be threaded.

Look at the new one and see that it's threaded on both ends.  Then turn it leftie loosie to remove and rightie tightie to install.

thanks, I know that, but if you look at the pic, the forward fitting is almost square (the one aft I could easily see and it was just a hose fitting).  So I guess I can just put my pliers on the square fitting to hold it tight, and start left loosie.  thanks again.

As a follow up. Thanks I got it put a pair of channel locks on the square fitting and turned the filter loose. No problem!! Took all of 10 minutes.

FWIW by changing this, it really helped with the smell on the boat, not that there was very much, but you can tell a difference

Your  good dockmates.  Not everyone always realizes when the filter is done !!
