We got her home...

Picked up our 38 in Lauderdale June 5th. Got back home yesterday afternoon. Great trip. Boat ran great. Came across a few small issues that need to be fixed, but overall very pleased. We have the Cummins 6cta's 450 hp. We cruised at 2100 rpm which would yield us about 22 knots. I was hoping for a little more cruise speed. Are other 38 owners getting about the same speed? Engines top out at 2500 rpm so I am using the 20% off the top rule. A fillup in Naples yeilded us about 22 gal per hour on average from Lauderdale.

I think the rated Max rpm for these engines are 2600? If so, you need to reduce pitch or at least determine why they do not turn up to 2600 at a minimum. Head over to boatdiesel.com and start chatting with some of the guru's over there on how to make these engines last a long time. You are currently overloading the engines and if you continue to do so you are going to be in for a large expensive repair. You can learn a lot about what i takes to make a diesel engine last a long time, verify the entire seawater circuit is 100% and don't overload the engines which means verify they reach over 2600 (max rated) when you are loaded max (like a trip to the bahamas for example). Good luck.
