When opening our 38 Tiara express from the winter we found our shower pump has mold all over it. We winterized it correctly as we have done all the time with antifreeze, but this is the second year this has happened. Last year we replaced the whole pump due to the mold. Wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and what we can do to prevent this from happening again. Any help would be great. Thanxs.
Pour a bit of bleach into the bottom of the shower and run some water (just enough to not kick on the pump) and let it set. After a hit turn on the shower and let the pump run. Should clean it out.
That being said, it's a shower sump. It's going to always have nasty water setting in it and develop mold. No way around that.
I put a bromine tablet or 2 in our shower sump (usually in strainer) every month or so during the season. Not as caustic as bleach/chlorine and keeps the sump box cleaner. Can be bought on amazon or a pool supply store.
Another option to consider is putting in a couple tablespoons of No Flex [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
or sodium percarbonate [Only registered and activated users can see links Click here to register]
into the shower drains periodically. Not caustic like bleach. Plastics in sump does not like long term exposure to bleach.
