Do you have a tower with shut down switches on the upper console? If they are open the engines will not start. Capt. George

Tom & Captain George,
I am out of town until Tuesday the 12th of June. I will attempt respond to your questions and comment as best as I can. When the mechanic put a conected between the two terminals bypassing the switch?? the engine would start and would keep running if we we held the sylanoid closed. When we released the sylanoid the engine would stop. It souuld be noted that the water temperature is in the upper 40 degree F, if that means anything as as to the need for heaters.

Captian George,

I am not sure I understand what you mean ab "tower". To the best of my knowledge there is no shutdown switches.

Thank you again for your comments and insiight. I have scheduled a Cummins service for Tuesday. I will keep you posted.
If anyone can tell me where I can purchase user manuels for the Cummins 370hp engines it would be appreciated. I called Cummins Service and they told me that the manuals were on there website in PDF format and could be downloaded. So far I have not been able to find them.

Tom, Chris & George,

The first part of each season I get the fire extinguishers checked, when the service technician reinstalled the extinguisher in the engine room after being weighed, he neglected to reconnect it. This was the reason for the engines not to remain running when releasing the key from the start position. It wasn't until the technician mentioned that the problem must be in the Fire Board, that the light went on, I wasn't aware that there was that connection until then.

Chris, you are correct, I do have Bel-Mar Generators and they only put out 12.6 V. When I had the batteries replaced, I replaced them with what was already in the Boat (traditional Lead/Acid). We will be changing the Generators.
I haven't addressed the tachometer problem yet. When I do I will post results.

Thank you all for your input, I have learned a lot and have a lot to learn, but I know where I can find for HELP.

Thanks again
John

Tom mentioned that you can change the charging cycle on the regulators to charge lead/acid batteries without changing the entire alternator/regulator set up. If that is true and I don't doubt it, that would be by far the least expensive way to fix your charging system.

Yes, the automatic fire extinguishing system will shut down engines, blowers and the generator if disconnected or discharged. You can use the override switch to run them, but make sure to fix the system and reset the fireboy switch to Normal.

Good Luck!
