On my 2003 38 Open there are 6 group 31 Gel batteries. 3 are house batteries and 3 are engine batteries. Each group of 3 are wired in parallel to each other providing 12 vdc to the system.

ReelMagic,
Where are your batteries located?
So, 1 bank of 3 starts port, starboard engine & generator and the other bank of 3 is for house?
Will the house bank power the boat all day (8hrs) if hanging on the hook (fridge, electronics, stereo & other minor 12vdc loads)?
Thanks, Andy

Yes on the configuration. 3 for main engines + Generator. 3 for house needs. We've been on the hook for more than 8hrs running all 12 vdc stuff including fridge, electronics, stereo, etc.

Forgot to mention where the batteries are located.. 3 (house batteries) are on the port side between the port engine and the hull side. Relatively easy to get to. The 3 engine batteries are located under the engine room access ladder/floor. Need to lift the removable floor between the engines. As a help once in the engine room you can remove the access ladder by removing the pins at the top of the ladder....
