29 Open Anchor
#1
we do a lot of anchoring in a river with a fairly strong current and the bottom is often soft and muddy. Less than a handful of times the anchor has dragged a bit, even in the more sandy areas. it does have approx. 30ft of chain. The anchor is a Delta Lewmar (NOT POSITIVE OF THE SIZE)With our last boat we didn't have any issues with a Danforth type anchor. do you think if we go up one size that it would improve how the anchor holds. Any thoughts. Also is it worth getting a stainless steel anchor vs. galv

Read the article about anchors in the West Marine catalog. I know of no advantage to using a SS anchor. They are pricey. For the bottom you are anchoring in I would favor a Danforth except where there is grass. Deltas sometimes lay on their sides and drag before they set but when they do set they hold well. Do you lower the anchor slowly while backing so that the chain does not tangle with the anchor? Capt. George

Get a Fortress with mud palms. Works great in mud and sand.
