I have a 2006 tiara sovran with a Kohlar 7.1 (7.3?) genny. It starts and runs good, but after an hour, hour and a half, it shuts down. It will start back up, but will not run more than 5 minutes or so. so far I've changed the fuel/water separator, the in line fuel filter, and the impeller. It makes good water, so I dont think it is a heat issue (that is the thermo coupler is not causing the shut down, I think) Any other suggestions? I really dont know.
Do you have a load on it when it shuts down? What does the unit do prior to shutting down (run rough etc)?
did it again yesterday. fired up just fine, ran the boat, and had a load on it the whole time, seems to be running fine, it shut itself down. I have fuel, and I did not try to re start. Thanks in advance.
The oil pressure switch is often the culprit. If you know you have oil in the crankcase, try disconnecting the OP switch. It is a process of elimination. Capt. George
Could be lift pump on it's way out, hook it up to a jug of fuel with an outboard squeeze bulb, if/when she starts to lose rpm squeeze the bulb and see if she regains rpm.
thanks guys!! got it to run last night, but had to change the in line fuel filter, which to me seems way too soon. Anyway ran good for like an hour, shut off again. Cracked the fuel line, and cranked it to see if fuel would spill out on fuel. Fiddled with it for a little, started pumping fuel again, and ran good. So my thoughts are somewhere between the fuel pump and the wiring harness on the pump. (we actually were checking for voltage when the pump started to pump again, so maybe something in the wire??)
