I have water under the cabin sole in my '89 3100 Convertible. The sole is the teak and holly laminate over plywood. I am looking for information on where I can safely cut in an inspection port so that I can drain the water, and have access in the future. I would like to place a port as close to the steps leading from the salon since this seems to be the area where the water sits. Any insight?

Check for a limber hole in the engine room bulkhead. Also check the anchor locker drain hole. My cabin would flood if the drain hole was plugged with debris and then the locker would fill and spill over the top. I never had to drill an inspection hole, the water would drain when the bow rose while running. If I had to guess where to drill an inspection hole it would be under the cabin steps as far aft as possible. Maybe drill a 1/4" test hole for starters. Capt. George

I have checked the anchor locker and the drain hole is free. I still need to check the weep hole in the engine bay. Since the water seems to collect under the stairs near the bulkhead I suspect that it may be clogged. I need to get it all drained and dry so that I can redo the floor.
Thank you for the reply Capt. George
