I have a 1980 31 Open. Probably the first one imported to the west coast of Canada. I was 12 years old when I went to her christening party put on by the original owner from whom I purchased the boat 3 years ago.
Anyhow - it has the original twin 454 crusaders with about 2800 hours. Engines were rebuilt at about 2100 hours.
My port engine suddenly failed on a recent trip. My mechanic said that the electronic conversion module (see picture) in the distributor failed. The distributor is made by Volvo Penta and is now obsolete - parts not available. It looks like I can get a new but different conversion module but, simply, I'm not sure if it will work with my older distributor or not.
I'm wondering if I'm just better to go ahead and replace both distributors? If so, does one need to be counter rotating? Any suggestions for brands / dealers? Preferably in Canada?
Appreciate any input.
