IMO, it really depends where you are traveling. For my trips to the Bahamas, I carry many many spares as parts can be hard to come by in areas. For example, I have Cummins 6BTA-30 and Westerbeke generator. I carry spare filters (many of them as fuel in the Bahamas can be bad), starter, belts, alternator, fuel pump, coolant circulation pump on engine, AC pump (actually carry 2 spares and impellers), impellers for all pumps, spare props, spare keys, along with large sledge to remove props and prop knocker (best way to get props off). I have a large tool box with lots of tools for doing all the work needed. I have tons and tons of smalls as well, solenoids, relays, bolts, nuts, washer etc. Fluke DVM and battery load tester.
Again, its depends on where you are going and if you can do the work to repair and be on your way. Better prepared then not IMO.
