I hope you meant it’s just an NPT (National Pipe Thread) thread. Brass fittings are OK for above waterline non raw (sea) water applications but anything under the waterline and/or raw (sea) water related better be bronze or you’re liable to have major issues.
While you’re at it, make sure the female fitting (connected to the boat) is properly bonded. Personally I drill and tap the plug so that it too can be bonded. This allows me to use thread sealant (“teflon”) without fear of breaking the bonding.
