I just brought my new-to-me 2005 3800 Open home to Edgewater, MD from Stuart, FL.  We easily made the trip in 4 1/2 days and all my expectations for this boat were met and exceded!  Even in 10 foot seas, she handled like a champ!  Her 480HP Cummins diesels are as economical to run as my twin 250hp Yamaha 2 strokes were on my prior boat, a Pursuit 3070 Offshore.  Really excited and looking forward to becoming even more familiar with this awesome boat!

Trip was straightforward?  What provisions/extras did you wish you had that you forgot?  I need to run my 32 Open from Jacksonville FL to Virginia Beach.

The only problem we ran into was that the generator (Kohler) stopped twice for no apparent reason.  Through this forum, I discovered that the fuel feed only goes down to 1/4 tank, so it doesn't draw fuel when you are running low.  However, I am not sure that is why it stopped.  We did not note the fuel level when it stopped, so I will have to monitor it closely going forward.

Our provisions included a spare impeller for the generator and for the engine raw water intakes, oil and fuel filters for engines and generator.  We brought tools, but didn't think to make sure that we had both US and Metric.  Metric are needed for the Kohler.

Absolutely. I bought a harbor freight “Pittsburgh” set ... the 300 pc has SAE and Metric in a really nice case that just is strapped down below. Not professional quality but I can say that 5 people on the dock have borrowed the set and ended up buying one for their boats. It’s definitely good. Impellers/belts/filters are in the Tiara kit.
