I had a problem similar to your dilemma
Mine was a pump handle head with the electric conversion pump
The worst design I ever saw the crap goes to the bottom of the bowl,makes a 90 degree turn to aft , down a little pipe and another turn to the impeller , children just love to plug the thing.
Rip that abomination out, go have a burial at sea (U tube optional) and replace it with a Jabsco with a isolated thru hull pump and a macinator at the base of the bowl where it belongs with a 1" discharge line to your holding tank
A grueling, totally awful job but, one of the best upgrades I have ever put on my boat,
Well, maybe second to the autohelm and hardtop
