Being a fresh water guy, I don't have first hand experience with bromine or chlorine beyond what I have read; and that seems to vary widely depending on who you listen to. Some prefer Bromine, others Chlorine and yet others suggest putting a few pieces of copper or pennies in your AC strainer. The one consistent thing that most seemed to agree on is the fact that chlorine or bromine will cause premature failure of your strainer baskets over time. I can't imagine that they're overly expensive, just something to keep an eye on.
