Follow up that after hitting it with lubricant several times, I ended up using a pipe wrench to get it to turn & break free. Once it would spin it came right out.
For a replacement, the AFI 1000 series was physically too small to match the footprint of the original model. I ended up using the AFI 2.5 wiper motor which hit the same screw holes & matched the trim cutout. It's deeper which might only be a problem if the motor is hidden behind some cabinetry. The AFI 1.5 model might work but I couldn't verify the dimensions.
