I own a 44 Coupe. The anchor that comes with the boat from Tiara is more of a fair weather "lunch hook".  Does anyone have experience with other anchors more suitable for longer cruising trips where anchoring out in stronger winds may be needed? For example, a Mantus M2?
I want to buy a more suitable anchor but am concerned that it won't fit in the 44's anchor stowing track/bow penetration.

What makes you think the anchor you have is just a lunch hook?    I run the stock anchor on my 40 express (its a Danforth Plow) and it holds incredibly well...

If you were going to make change I would go with changing to an all chain rode if the boat doesn't have it already.   According to the buyers guide your boat should have a Lewmar DTX 37 lb anchor.   I am not sure what conditions you be anchoring in, but thats a big anchor.   The others out there probably wont perform any better unless you have ground condition issues.  The plow style anchor performs well in most bottoms but there are anchors that will do better in certain conditions than others.

Thanks for the insight. This is my second Tiara, and I am a big believer in the engineering of their boats. Having said that:
a) Yes, I have the 37# Lewmar as on the Tiara spec sheet (I bought the boat new).
b) We are marina people - only time we would anchor (other than for lunch) is if we were caught in a storm and needed to duck into a cove to wait it out. In New England (our home) that's easy - there are lots of marinas to duck into. In the Bahamas (where we are going this spring..Abacos and Exumas), I am concerned that the OEM actor would not hold/grip in the hardpacked sand and marinas seem to be a lot fewer/far apart. Mantus anchor (for one) recommends 55# anchor for winds up to 30 knots for my size boat.


Hence my desire for a heavier anchor. The online video demos of Mantus (granted, video made by Mantus) show that it holds better than a regular Plow. So if I'm gonna spend a lot of money for heavier anchor I'll go with the Mantus.

As far as the rode: mine is 40 ft chain and then rope. I will look into what's involved to change to all chain (shouldn't be hard since all-chain is a Tiara factory option).
