I'm not sure if there is a down side but prefer to fill each engine/generator so I know exactly what is going in... I also pre-load the engine oil filters w/3-3.5 qts of oil before installing them on each main engine. This to ensure oil is available when starting the engine the first time after changing the oil... M2C
