Some info for those who need to repair a leaky portlight.  My wood was pretty bad, picked out what I could and let it air dry.  Drilled out screws holes larger to get liquid epoxy to penetrate well.  Went with Abatron Liquid Wood & Wood Epoxy.  Put on liquid, put on putty, let it dry well.  Sanded excess.  Pre-drilled screw holes and all of them bit hard!  Use life seal on outer plate and where the two meet, so far so good.
