Although I agree sight unseens, no survey, ect is bad...there are questionable builds.
I have a 1983 3100 Convertible and the finish on interior is very inconsistant...nowhere near what the newer boats show. I think it was a different world back in 1983 for what was acceptable! I can tell you about horrible cut holes, molding that doesn't mitre or match very well, 3 different kinds of wood and finish all the same area (I know it's all original). So it does happen.
At the same time I agree that previous owners are harsh on boats. I do almost everything correct and I'm sure someone could call my quality into question.
I find it interesting that a marina requires a survey prior to belong, but I must be in a different world here in the Great Lakes. I know many marinas on the ocean have issues with poor quality boats being abandoned.
