I owned a 1983 Tiara 27, so I know what you mean. My guess is this hardware is long out of production. Is the manufacturer stamped anywhere on the hardware? - Perko? If you can find the manufacturer, then you can try looking online to either find one or one that can be modifed to work.
Your other option is to pull the door handle mechanism and take it down to your local boating supply store and see if you can match it to something in their catalogs.
If that doesn't work, you are going to have to find a currently available piece of hardware that will work with your door.
