Check engine lights after start
#1
Question
Hello,

Started up my boat(2001 31 Open) last week for the first time this year and both of the check engine lights came on for less than a minute and then went off. About 15 minutes later, I restarted and no check engine lights came on either engine.  The oil pressure is fine and engines are still cold since they have only been on for a minute. I tried starting again today for the second time.  Same situation- I start the engines and both lights come on for less than a minute.  The only thing that I noted is that both the house and the engine volt indicators are below 12(in the red zone on the guage) for about 30 seconds before it gets over 12(in the green). The house and the engine batteries are Gel. The boat has been on ShorePower with charger on since put in water last week. Could the low volts be causing the alarms?  Any other ideas? The engines are 2001 7.4 Crusader MPIs.

Thank you for any ideas.

I just had the same incident. On mine the buzzer sounded as normal before I started the motor and the buzzer sounded again and all lights flashed as if I was starting it again. I think mine is definitely battery related, when the voltage drops the computer thinks it is being started again and the systems check runs again. And I know my batteries were low. Waiting on a new charger. Once it comes in and I charge the batteries I will be able to test my theory.
