I own a 2003 38 Open w/Cummins 6C (450HP) and do an oil change every season (Oil +filters). Do approx 120 hrs/yr. Most likely can go longer but yearly fits my maintenance schedule. Also do fuel filters (on engine+racors) and fresh water filter. M2C
I have always stuck with 100 hours. These engines are always running under a load. I compare it to running your truck fully loaded up hill at all times. I just purchased a Tiara 50' Open with bad engines due to lack of maintenance and sitting. The rebuild cost for both engines is $70,000.
I know this conversation was put to bed right at a year ago but that was also the same week I bought my Tiara 3800. I've put 160 hours on it the first year while living mostly out of town from where the boat is based. Now that I've moved to the same location as the boat I expect to easily do 300 hours per year. Talking to other sport fishing teams who are professionally captained, they say they do changes at 150 hours. I feel like 150 hours with a quality full synthetic should be acceptable. Although, I would also agree to do it annually if you're not putting the hours on. Thoughts from the group are appreciated.
