I have a 1996 Tiara Open with a gas powered 454 Crusader 7.4 MPI Engine. It is my first year with the boat and i am starting to winterize and called to get oil and filter spec. Marine west asked me if the engine block is a chevy or a ford. how do I determine what blocks Crusader was using in 1996? Plan on using Rotella 15W40 oil. Appreciate any other advice on anything special to winterize (drain water, blow out lines, etc all on the list). Thanks.
A Fram PH8A (or comparable) oil filter and Rotella 15W40 will work just fine; as mentioned its a Chevy 454 block.
If its raw water cooled, drain the water from the block, manifolds, and pull the pencil zinc and drain the oil cooler. Pull off the cooling hose at the thermostat and pour in some Pure Oceans -50 antifreeze.
Make sure to get the water out of the raw water strainers if you dont run antifreeze thru them.
