I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2004 3100 OPEN LE THIS YEAR AND WISH TO WINTERIZE THE 8.1 MPI ENGINES MYSELF.i WAS TOLD NOT TO FOG ENGINES BUT MAKE FUEL MIX IN A SEPERATE FUEL CONTAINER TO SUPPLY ENGINES FUEL AND DRAW FROM THAT ISOLATED CONTAINER TO WINTERIZE ENGINES.dOES ANYONE KNOW THE PROPER FUEL,OIL MIX FOR THIS? hOWEVER AFTER READING MANUAL IT STATES TO FOG ENGINES WITH AEROSOL TYPE FOGGING SOLUTION AND SPRAY SUFFICIENT AMOUNT INTO THROTTLE BODY.so WHATS CORRECT?
Not that particular motor but Crusader 454's, I've found an ounce or two of 2 stroke oil in the water fuel separator works well. Fire up the motor till a cloud of smoke comes out the exhaust and your all set. I learned that from the yard who used to winterize my boat for me.

If your fuel system is like mine, and I assume it is I have a 2002 with 8.1's, then you have a continuous fuel delivery system. So if you go the separate can route you have to disconnect the fuel line to the motor and the return line that returns the unused fuel to the fuel tank. If you do not do this your separate can will be empty in no time and all of your solution will be sent to your main fuel tank.

Not sure what the right answer is but I would look at your manuals to see what/if the manufacturer recommends what to do to winterize. If nothing is provided. I would write the engine manufacturer itself.. Everyone has their own thoughts and reasons on what/how they winterize... I owned a 1997 31 Open with 454 FI Crusaders for more than 10 years. Winterizing them was quite simple as far as I'm concerned. I added a fuel stabilizer to full fuel tanks, ran the motors for 15-20 minutes; then changed the engine oil/filters and fuel filters. Restarted the motors and used a fogging oil (recommended by Crusader) injecting the fogging oil into the throats of the throttle body till the engine really, really, smoked and then shut the engine down... Had more than 1800 hrs when I sold the boat and the buyer is still doing the same.... Know that MPFI is somewhat different so you most likely need to modify the process. I believe stabilizing/filling the fuel tanks, running the engine to get the stabilizer fuel throughout the system is what is really needed. M2C
