Tiara Open Bait freezer on. 2006 38 open tournament
#1
Greetings from Fort Lauderdale. I purchased a 2006 38 open tournament addition.  It came equipped with a bait prep station complete with a Bait Freezer.   I had to replace a thoroughly rusted out recirculation pump for the chiller which seems to work as promised.  I’m trying to figure out what the “Bait Freezer’s” were supposed to be capable of exactly.  I did get it to freeze the surface of a cup of water I left in it overnight. That was before I fixed the recirc pump.   I know this may sound stupid but I’d really like to hear what this option was expected to do when new. Since I have to run the generator to operate it off the dock, I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth the fuel burn.

I have a large bait freezer on my 50 open. I put ballyhoo and squid in it plus a couple of 40lb ice bags and it keeps everything solid. We keep the ice in there until we put a fish in the box and then pull out a bag of it. I have kept it running for weeks at the dock to keep ice and bait between trips and everything stayed frozen.

Yes there is and it seems to be in good working order.  Would you know if there should be a cold plate in it similar to the fridge?

Thanks very much. Even the peeps at Tiara are not sure of the op specs.    I had a feeling it would function as you described though.  One other question, does your bait freezer have any “cold plates” in it. Mine does not but there is something I believe is a temp sensor.

My freezer seems to have the plates dehind the fiberglass walls. When I start to run it without anything in it I can see the ice start forming on 3 of the walls.

Thanks so much.  Your info has been a huge help.   Mine gets cold, but not sure if the temp control unit is set right.

The evaporator coils are embedded in walls of the freezer (tight to the outside of the fiberglass and encapsulated within the insulation)--there is no conventional evaporator plate or 'cold' plate. This is to make the unit easier to clean and improve appearance.

Gave mine the test after repairing the recirculation pump and programming the controller.  Happy to say it’s working like a champ.
