Tiara 3800 Open - Buyer's Guide

How would you quantify this? I'm kind of scratching my head at the premium that is being asked for the 3900 Open (versus the 3800 Open). I see people asking 40-50% more for a 3900 versus the typical comps of 3800's. The 3900 often has the Cummins QSC 8.3L 600hp engines (I think some of them had 550hp). Is there something else going on with the 3900 that makes it worth so much more money? It's got a few little modern twists on the configuration, but largely seems like the same boat. The late model 3800's with QSC seem to fall somewhere in the middle, so maybe that all makes sense.

3900 is a totally different hull--it's longer, wider, heavier, significantly bigger cockpit, it carries much more fuel, etc. It's also newer both in design and construction. That's why there's such a premium. Yes, it replaced the 38, just as the 38 replaced the 37. Big gap in price between the 37 & 38 as well.

It's been tough trying to find the right boat. Put in a few offers on 3900's, but haven't found the right deal yet. Not many 3800's coming up for sale in my area. Might look at 3600's since there are more of them out there.

They made much fewer 3600's than 3800's, so surprised to hear you say that there are more available.

The 3600 is a significantly smaller boat than the 3800, although it is a newer design. I personally do not think the 3600 handles rough water as well as the 3800. It will be faster and burn less fuel which is great! Try to go see one to see if the size will work for you.

Well, it took me a while, but I finally found a boat. 2007 3800 Open. It has the Plan A layout, and QSC 8.3 490HO engines. A little more deferred maintenance than I wanted, but it's clean and local, so ended up being a decent fit. Excited to officially be in the Tiara Club.

2007, QSC, Plan A, rare combo, congrats. I think the 38 is one of the best boats Tiara has made.

Congrats, I’ve owned my 3800 since 2013 with QSC’s, love the boat, runs like a top. I use it for salmon fishing on Lake Michigan and for a few cruises a year. Good luck!
