Hi, I'm having some issues with the engine lift on my '94 31'. the motor has been running slow and sometimes doesnt at all. a few times i have tapped around the switch in the cockpit to get it to work. so, i'm assuming its just some wiring. any thoughts?
My first guess and the easiest to change would be the switch. Because of the high motor current draw the contacts burn away. Also check the push on lugs for corrosion and tightness on the switch blades. Be sure to purchase a DPDT (double pole, double throw) switch with a high contact rating. Capt. George
Don't know anything about the 94 version but on my 2000 3500 Open, the switch does not carry the full current load for the lifts. There are 2 relays under my helm that carry the current load while the switch just activates the relay. Again, have no idea how the 94's are wired but you might want to break out the schematics and take a look.
I agree with Trit. My 88 was wired directly from motor to switch but if the current draw is too high a relay would be used. Check your schematics. Again, changing the switch is an easy, cheap, quick shot that eliminates one possibility. Capt. George
