Recently bought a 2005 Tiara 2900. On the AC panel are two protected switches(lift a cover to turn the switch on or off). One is for the battery charger and has a red light when it is on. The other also protected and has a red light showing that it is on when the AC power is on. Can someone tell me what this switch activates. Thanks.

Follow-up ...

Here's an AC panel from a 2900 Open (a 2002, but should be pretty close to yours if not exactly the same).  If you have any unlabeled switches that are not on this panel, they may be for accessories that were added to your boat by a prior owner.  (For example, I have an extra switch on my panel for a satellite dish & receiver.)

Don't give up hope, there are lots of guys here trying to help.
Try this:
AC usually only goes to the frig, air conditioner, battery charger, stove, cabin outlets, microwave and water heater as shown in the photo. Look at the meter, if it is not drawing any current when the switch is on then try turning every AC thing on the boat on one at a time until the meter reads something. That should pinpoint the device.  Capt.  George

Thanks. I hope the attachment comes through. The unmarked switch is just below the AC on off switch and has a protective cover like the charger switch. It shows a red light indicating that it is active. I will go to the boat today and try turning switches off and then on to see what that tells me. Thanks to all.

The pic is a bit blurry, but I see what you're talking about.

That position is normally used for the Air Conditioner, but it's tough to say in your case.  Tried to narrow it down by process of elimination, but couldn't read all the labels in your pic.  Didn't see another that looks like "Air Conditioner" though, so that may be it.

Some work has definitely been done in your panel, as some of the breakers are white, rather than the original black.  This isn't necessarily a problem, other than the unlabeled switch.

I only have 1 protected switch on my panel (1994) and that what mine is for.

On my boats I change out the circuit breaker lights for things that are always left on. For example, my AC panel has all green lights but I replaced the battery charger, refrigerator and air conditioner lights with amber ones. That way when I leave the boat I can quickly check if I am good to go.  Capt.  George

Thanks guys. A couple points. I know for a fact that it is the original panel. I do not have air. It is not for the macerator as there is another switch for that. I have an electronics expert coming out to instal some new Garmin electronics. While doing that we may be able to figure out what the switch is for. Will keep you posted.

When your guy figures out what the phantom switch is for, make sure to have him label it for you too. Good way to avoid the same problem happening for someone else down the road.
