Is there anything I should be looking for specifically that relates to the hull / engines?

I cant wait to officially join this board in a few weeks when I buy the boat (hopefully!)

2004; cummins 480 hps ... v drive

I do not want to deal with IPS drives. Yes they have advantages; but because I am buying a used boat I dont want to get stuck if the IPS drive concept doesnt pass the test of time.

I have a 2006 36 Sovran.  Make sure they check the deck by the windlass.  Ours showed some moisture.  It was not a big deal.  I would also recommend having a good diesel mechanic check the engine.

Agree - Ive got the hull surveyor and a cummins guy doing a thorough check.

I was just wondering if there were any boat specific areas I should have them double check.

Check all deck hardware (windlass, stanchions etc...) as well as the swim platform for moisture...

Ive read about some problems with swim platform leaking into the bilge.

Anyone have problems with the cummins? It sounds like they are rock solid as long as you are on top of the intercoolers.

 not to hi jack a thread, but I have a 2006 36 Sovran and I still cant get the hatch with the steering wheel on it to come forward,  I see the grab handles, but I cant get any 'leverage' to get it to move.  I don't think it is bolted in the front (towards the wind shield).  Can you offer any hints??

it is about my 1 year anniversary from when I bought a 2006 Sovran 3600, but mine have gas engines.  The only thing they found was on the swim platform, the tie downs showed some moisture.  They took the bolts out, epoxied the holes, and all was good to go.  They might have missed the holding tank indicator and if it works (it reads error all the time for me and I've haven't figured that out yet)

I really need to ask either the broker or the surveyor some of the following:  How do I get the helm compartment open??  I would want them to show me that.  If you have a holding tank, how does all of that system work (it took me months to figure all that out)

But that's about it, so far so good, and I love the thing!!  Hope all goes well.
