I'm considering installing an Electroscan sanitation device in my 2004 Tiara. Ideally I would like to install this in the engine compartment. The instructions read that this equipment should not be installed where temperatures exceed 120 degrees F. Does anyone know the temperatures one might expect in the engine compartment? The boat is a 35' open with the twin Cummins 370hp diesels. I boat on the Chesapeake Bay and during the summer the ambient temperatures could reach 95 degrees on the water. Would appreciate any input. Thanks.

The engine temp is 180 deg. The upper level of the engine room is probably 200 while the lower may be 120 . Lectrosan as I recall does not allow discharge in our area . That may not be true where you are . To get accurate temps get a infared heat reader , about 100 bucks . these give instant temp by pointing and hit the button . These devices are great for engine diagnostics ,you can spot a stuck thermostat by watching temp rise at the hot spot and cool on the other side . Also can be used to verify instruments accuracy .

Thanks for the information. As it happens I'm in the HVAC industry and have an infra-red temp reader. I've also mounted a remote reading thermometer in the engine compartment. Problem is when ever I've had the time the weather hasn't cooperated. We also haven't had the 90 degree days that I'd really like to get a reading on. As I understand it other than being in at marina's or up tributaries there are 2 NDZs on the Chesapeake. One is Herring Bay and I think the other is Baltimore although I'm not positive about that one. Thanks again....
