Hello, my name is John Gloag, and together with my brother-in-law, Allan Gjernes, we own a 2004 3100 Open Ltd, 330 Cummins Diesel engines. We bought the boat 3 years ago in San Diego and had it shipped up to Blaine, WA, then cruised up to Vancouver, BC. We moor the boat at a place called Secret Cove, about 40 miles North of Vancouver. We've added an inflatable dingy with Sea-Wise Davies, diesel stove, trolling valves, kayak rack on the hard-top, so all set for fishing and fun. A great boat for cruising our waters, and spending a few nights on board. Love the handling and pushing those lovely throttles forward!
Welcome aboard! The Tiara 3100 Open is a great boat. I sat in meetings with Tiara Execs when the concept for the LE was first concieved. Initially the intention was to built 20 boats and it was so successful, they ended up building over 40. Your being a 2004, you have one of last Tiara 3100 Opens built. I forget howmany where produced in 2004, but I believe it was less than 15 which ended the 12 year successful run of the Tiara 3100 Open.
Congrats on your ownership of what I believe will become a true classic in the boating world.
John, love that boat. Sounds like you've added some weight. The motors may need you to reduce your prop pitch. They are very solid but can fail within hundreds of hours if they cannot get to rated wide open throttle specification. Being over propped by only 100 RPM on the top end (reaching only 3700 RPM) is dangerous to the motor. Check your WOT RPMs. Would be true for any competing motor from Yanmar, Volvo, Cat, etc. Boatdiesel has volumes on this motor, best resource you will find.
