Hello.   My name is Frank Paleno, I am new to this forum and looking to become a Tiara owner.   I am asking for feedback on Tiara boats and the F44 specifically.   We recently sold a 50 foot Silverton and are very interested in the Tiara F44 Flybridge with Cummins straight inboards.  We like the layout of this boat, the quality of the workmanship, and the option to have straight shafts.     We will be visiting the Miami show and also looking at a Viking 46, Princess's 43, and the East Bay 

We do want a boat with straight inboards which is limiting our selections a bit, but we are confident we would be very happy with any of these boats 

Any feedback or things to look for would be appreciated. We use the boat on the South Shore of Long Island which has a protected, shallow bay, but frequently run near shore (3-10 miles offshore) in the ocean which can get nasty at times.

Hi,

I don't have experience with the F44, but do have a Sovran 44' with straight Cummins QSM-11 660 HP. The boat is on the East End of Long Island and we frequently cruise the North East up thru Boston. The boat does have a bow thruster, but it is very rarely used, the boat handles EXCELLENT in close quarters. There are some very good deals on used Sovran 44's if you are looking to go that route. As mentioned will be visiting the Miami boat show and hope to make some decisions following that. I do like the Tiara models, and will investigate the Sorvan market.

Thank you Ben. The Miami show was a nice time except for the awful traffic. It did help us in our focus on next boat. My wife really likes the layout of the F44, she likes a salon with big windows, open access, aft galley, and the option of no lower station. The build quality of the Tiara seems very good. My only concern with this boat if the limited engine choices. We do not want an IPS boat leaving the only engine option is Cummins 550,s which seems a bit underpowered. When I calculate loading this boat with fuel, water, people, and all the "required gear" that gets loaded aboard, this is just not enough engine.

That leaves us investigating the new Viking 44. Similar size, but can be ordered with various engines choices up to twin 1000's (2000HP), almost double. Wife does not like the layout as much but a underpowered boat will be very frustrating. Is it possible to get additional engine choices in the F44, we were told no at the show but still hopeful.

We also liked a Maritimo model 48, nice boat

Hi Choppy01, the only shaftdrive option is the Cummins 550HP. This gives the boat a 29.1 mph cruise @ 3000 RPM with all full water, waste, fuel and 1000LBS of gear/people. These boats always run a few MPH faster then tiara publishes. Our dealership sells Tiara, Maritimo and Princess on the west coast. All are great boats with good factory support after the sale. With any of these I’d go for the seakeeper or at least have it pre wired for one with the appropriate size generator to run one. The seakeeper is the new must have item for new boats and I wouldn’t want to be the guy trying to sell his 2018 5 years from now without one. Truly a amazing bit of machinery. I never get seasick but having delivered quite a few boats with them I can tell you it adds a whole new level of comfort to the boat. Hope this helps.

We have reviewed the build options and will include a Seakeeper in whichever we we decide to go, they are expensive, but to your point seem to be a must have item. The admiral is stuck on either the Tiara F44 or the Maritimo 51, which is just a bit too big for what we are looking for at this time. I thought they made a 45 but that model seems to be discontinued, and not to many used ones around with shafts. I like the Cummins engines, but as stated earlier the math for me just has it a bit underpowered with 550's.

My guess is that we will land on a Viking 44. It has a number of engines choices, performance, and much of what we are looking for, although wife does not like the salon layout (really likes the aft galley) or bridge steps.

My local Tiara dealer is arranging a sea trail on a 44 as soon as the weather breaks, hopefully that works out well.
