Hello, I am new and looking for any tips on purchase of used Tiara 36 Open 2008 w/ 8.1L MPI Crusaders. 1500hrs. History of use is trolling Lake Michigan for salmon. Survey and sea trial schedule for the weekend. Are there any warnings or red flags that I should be looking out for? Please advise as any and all help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

That year Tiara can have a wet hull. Could be easy fix could be complicAted and expensive. I tried to by 2006 36’ and it was immaculate and very knowledgeable owner but it had a wet hull. He eventually fixed it but I walked away.
Knowledgeable surveyor who is certified is a must. Boat must be in a sling for hours before the water meter is used to make sure the hull is dry. Lots written on this subject so search the web.

I have an older 36 Open with twin Crusader 454's. Plenty of power and they troll down very nicely. I'm sure 8.1's would be fine if everything else checks out on the boat.
I have a 2007 3600 Open with 8.1 Crusaders...plenty of power and burns about .9 gallons per mile at 3200rpm. Purchased the boat new and have no problems with engines or hull except regular maintenance and upkeep. Good Luck!

Thank you for the advice. Did purchase the boat. Has some minor "wetness" in the corners likely the scuppers, as well as a bit in the transom from the door hinges. Surveyor was very thorough in delineating how to repair. Stated it was not worth walking away from and easily repairable. As far as power, the 8.1L have plenty of power. Am actually pleasantly surprised. My worry about the motors is future repair since they are no longer manufactured. All in all am very happy with the boat and a warm and genuine "Thank-you" to all that contributed advice. Thanak you!
