I am looking for input on some modifications that I am considering for my 3700. One modification would be to change from cable controls to a single electronic control for each engine the other is to add bow and stern thrusters.  Both modifications are very expensive and I am wondering if the benefits would justify the cost.

Some owners love the electronic single lever controls, others don't so it's really a personal choice. IMO i prefer the control and feel of mechanical transmission controls and am more comfortable with dual lever. i also prefer to keep things simple especially when it comes to propulsion controls. Since you have mechanical engines you would need actuators for both engine and gear. Two more things to go wrong. Again just my opinion

With diesels, a low profile and hull design not sure how much you will pickup with thrusters.

I agree with the electronic controls being more to go wrong. I have used both and prefer the cables. I can "Feel" the engines better.

Bow and stern thrusters are a waste of money IMO with the wider twin inboards. I can spin mine on a dime and walk the boat sideways. My brother has it on his large single engine blow boat and uses it every time. But that is the only time I ever see a need for them.

Yeah mechanical is my preference- saw firsthand in my marina a friend have his e controls go bad while docking. Out of nowhere his port shifter got reversed- meaning when he went to back in to his slip he put both motors in reverse and port went forward- no damage but still scary!

What problem or issue are you trying to fix? Very expensive modifications imply big problems. Ive not seen an Open that was difficult to run.
