Vessel Info: 2006 Tiara Sovran 44000- Cummings
We are looking at buying a tiara and looking for advice. Should we buy here or go north to get freshwater boat? We want to stay under 190,000
Should we get the pod drive or direct drive (it will be sitting in the water in the Bahamas and in and out service in Florida.

Direct drives all the way is my opinion!!
Pods are very expensive to fix when they break and all things on boats will break sooner or later.

I agree with direct drive. Just simpler to maintain. And if you do look up North, remember our boats age better as they sit indoors half the year! There are a couple nice 40'-43', decent boats up here in Ohio and Michigan.

I have a 2000 41 Open with direct drive cats and dripless shift seals with no problems. I have seen a few of the pod drives and most of the people I have spoken to were less than thrilled with them. Way to much to go wrong and most mechanics haven't ever worked on them. Good luck getting parts in the Bahamas for pods.
How old of a boat are you looking for? Mine may be up for sale soon as I am thinking about moving to a 50' express.
