Hi,
Unless there were a whole lot of issues, $5,000 is crazy.
I did mine as you said, one day per engine. You should have a discussion and a break down of the costs. You'll be doing this again in 4years if you're in the salt and you need to understand what went wrong.
Regards,
Paul

I did my own and I bet I could have done them both in one long day. 2 days tops. Unless they pulled all of the exhaust hoses and exhaust elbows and inspected them all. But even then it is only another 4-5 hours.

I did mine in about 8 - 10 hours per side on my old school Crusader 7.4Ls. They had not been replaced in at least 10 years and I changed the 30 year old manifolds while I was at it. You are getting fed a line of........
The important thing is to retorque everything again at 5, 10, and 20 operating hours. It was surprising how much more they tightened up at 5 and 10 hours. After 20 hours I haven't found they took anymore torque.

We had the local mechanic who seems to have a good reputation around our yacht club recommend replacement of the Risers and Elbows- We have a quote for $4,950 including all parts and labor -- The boat is new to us but have known that the past two owners have not replaced them in at least 10 years. I will upload the invoice once its completes. -- Note the parts were over $2k

I was recently quoted $400.00 per side by my local mechanic. That included replacing manifolds, risers, elbows and exhaust tubes. 5K is nuts!
