Just wondering if anyone has any recomendations on who to use for helm area SNAP IN CARPET for the 1998 31ft open.If someone has used a commercial carpet company where you do it yourself by sending them a template that has had good results please let me know. Thanks :flag:

On my prior boat I just brought it to a local carpet store. An individually owned store, not a big box store. They used it as a template and did the binding too, came out perfect and the choices were plenty. Binding gets pricey if a lot of curved corners. You can have them do snaps or you can buy a snap kit. Depending on the fit the need for snaps is questionable.

Why shop in the over priced marine industry when you don't have to? Any good local carpet store can make you exactly what you want from a template. They can recommend the right product too. If snaps are needed after you lay it in place a canvas/upholstery guy can come to the boat and do that part.

I ordered a special size and shape runner and step rug for my 38 Open from matworks.com. They are the ones that made the Gunnel Mat for Tiara. I provided them with a Template for both rugs and they came out perfectly. If you order them with a non-skid backing, you may not need snaps.

Just put carpet down in our boat, went to a local carpet shop and bought the best indoor/outdoor carpet they had. It is about 1/8' think with a nice pad included in the carpet. Much more quiet now when running and nice on the feet. Only negative is when water gets in and under the carpet you must lift the carpet to dry out. Small price to pay for what it offers although.

We use our boat for cruising so I carpeted the entire cockpit of my 3600 Open. I used a teak color carpet. I had it bound by a local carpet shop after cutting it to fit myself.
No snaps and it all stays put.
When we leave the boat, I roll up the lower cockpit carpet and put it between the helm and companion seats. We are in a covered berth so it does not get wet there.
A lot quieter and softer on the feet.
