Tiara flooring repair
#1
i have a 98 tiara express 3500 and need to repair a section that suffered damage due to a leaky a/c unit, it got neglected by the previous owner and he paid the price.. What type of flooring did tiara used? looks like teak & holly, does anyone know the brand? I am hoping that i can replace the yellow smallish board in an area (holly or hard maple?).

I think the floors are teak and holly and the tables are teak and maple.

The teak and Holley sole is available in sheets similar to plywood
It appears to be fairly easy to work with.

If your 98 is like my 99, it is not plywood, but individual pieces of teak and holly laid like a traditional hardwood floor. My advice would be to get a flooring company to take a look at it. If the wood is just discolored but solid, they have some products (I know Benjamin Moore makes one) and methods that can handle discoloration. Conversely, if there is actual damage, they’ll have the skill to blend new/old almost seemlessly.

The last thing you want to do is get into replacing it all. Doing you entire cabin in the same material that’s in there now would probably cost north of $10k. There are other options for replacement (check out Amtico) but it would be a real shame to lose all that beautiful teak and holly if there’s any chance it could be repaired.

Also, where is the damage? You said AC unit, so I’m presuming it’s the midship one under the settee? Did it damage the main part of the sole or that step-up under the table? If the latter, is there a way you can just focus on the step-up and leave the main part of the sole alone?

Here is what I have found out... So I spoke to Tiara customer service and they sent me to a company called Maritime wood products, they supplied the wood for tiara on my boat. I contacted them and they still manufacture teak and holly (solid burma teak planks and alternating strips of hard maple) for boats.. I was able to buy just the 1/2" strip of "holly" to repair the floor that looks black due to the water damage and my plan is to cut through the middle of the existing 1/2" strip & remove both parts, then i would also cut the bottom part of the groove of the new strip to be installed and place it on the teak plank groove, it should go right with slight pressure. This is how damaged tongue and groove boards are replaced on houses, hopefully it works on this as well.
