Anyone have holding tank leaks on 40 mid cabin. Previous owner did not change the vent filter and the top of tank con caved and is leaking. During winter layup will need to tear up aft stateroom floor or put new tank in engine room. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Jack.

NO. Just keep your air vent hoses clean and filter changed.

Conclusion on leak in holding tank. Throughly sealed existing tank and abandoned it. Installed new tank under the aft stateroom berth. To remove existing tank would have destroyed aft stateroom.. Able to fit 41 gallon tank.

In the engine room you should have filter on the holding tank vent. Mine has hose type screw fittings on each end. Pretty easy to change filter.. Also check vent on outside of hull for all tanks.. spiders love vent hoses to nest as well as wasps. Fuel, water and holding tank all have vents. Jack

Your vent filter should be mounted in the forward bilge (where the shower sump is) on the starboard side (likely screwed into the aft bulkhead in that compartment. You will see a hose coming off the black water tank with a cylinder shaped vent filter leading to a vent in the hull side.
