Tiara Open Battery charger
#1
New to this thread so bear with me. I have a 1989 Tiara 27 open. Both batteries are kaput  and marina owner believes culprit is the battery charger. Anyone replace the charger in a 27 and if so with what? I have 2 batteries,  both 24’s. There is no house battery. 1 is connected to the frig and 1 runs the gps side. 1 battery is 4years old and 1 is 5 years old. I let the water level get to. Low this summer and had to refill both batteries, not dry, but close. Hooked up to shore power one battery cooked the water out, the other is fine, but has no , very little, charge.

Those older chargers weren't that "smart" and can cook the batteries. Couple that with 4 and 5 year old batteries and issues start occurring. Get new batteries and upgrade to a smart charger. It will keep them happy much longer.

Thanks. That’s the plan. Now the decision on charger manufacturer. Guest, Dolphin, Xartec? Lots of names. I guess go with name brand and should be fine.

On things like that I always go with the big name brand stuff. Plus I do a ton of research online. Don't go cheap on things that can burn your boat to the waterline.

I have been really happy with my Sterling Power Pro Charge Ultra Power Factor Corrected Battery Charger: 12 Volt, 30 Amp, 3 bank Marine Battery Charger. Check on what AMP service you have. My boat only has 30 AMP service. They sell different-rated chargers.

Just replaced my Charles SP5000 40A 12v. battery charger with a new XanTrex 40A smart Charger. Easy replacement, programmable 2 or 3 banks!
