how do you lift hatch without battery power and my charger won't charge because obviously they are below 9 volts? Bang Head

Which hatch are you trying to open? Do you have any access to the underside? There's typically pins that hold the pistons in place. Remove pins, lift hatch. Is that possible on your boat?

all I have is a small opening but I don't think I could reach those struts from there. I'm not at boat currently but that is a thought. I have a guy who is down there and is disconnecting the smart charger and hooked up a manual charger to see if that will get an engine cranked.

If you cannot get the batteries to take a charge, here is what I would do:

-Get a fresh, charged battery
-Remove the two output wires from the hatch lift fuses
-Temporarily connect these two wires to the fresh battery through appropriate wiring & fuses
-Temporarily connect the fresh battery ground to suitable ground point on the boat
-Lift hatch, replace batteries, put wiring back

Ok got a fix. We removed the wires to the smart charger and hooked up a regular battery charger to them and it charged system. All good!!!

Except now you have to figure out why the smart charger did not work correct?
