180 seems high considering Buzzards Bay water temps in May. Are the engines idling at 180 degrees? More importantly, what temps are the engines running at cruise speed? What is the history of the vessel? How long have you owned it? When were the water pump impellers and exhaust risers last changed? Have you confirmed the temps with an infrared temp gun?

I have had the boat five years. The engines usually run about 180. The manifolds were just replaced. The port engine got up to 200 within a minutes this weekend before it started to cool off.

What motors are you running? I have 8.1 Crusaders and mine idle at 140 and get up to 175 when running. The thermostats don't even open until I throttle up.

I have 1997 454 XLi Crusaders that are running properly (fingers crossed). Just flushed/changed coolant. Original Crusader OEM parts manual shows a 170 degree thermostat. I run just a tad under 180. That temp pretty much hold regardless of what my RPMs are once warmed up. Temp surges 10 degrees or so when I shut engines off.
