Tiara Open Hurley vs Dinghyramp
#1
Hallo,
this is a new Tiara 42 open (2006) italian owner...and very glad to have joined this forum.
I have bought this boat both for fishing and for family cruising and - as you can imagine - tender is becoming an issue for the cruising time and approaching soon. Currently I have no tender but I am considering a light inflatable 230 (90 in) soft keel with a small 4 hp...total weight should not exceed 125 pounds. My platform instead is only 27,5 in and 8 in from the top edge to the water...

Here in Italy we don't have many davits systems and I came across these 2 us systems, which seemed to me the most commonly used in US, the Hurley H20 and the Dinghyramp HDplus.

My question is concerning safety in use, especially in rough conditions. Even in plane the boat is quite leaning back and I am just concerned that waves might hit the tender causing the loss or damages...

Any suggestion on which to use and any previous experience?...price seems a bit high..but if it works fine I will go for it.

This would really help me in this choice...my holiday break is approaching and my wife and son will make my life easier with a tender  Cool

Many thanks in advance

Alex

Hello and welcome to the forum. The 42 is a fine vessel which should treat you well.

I can’t comment on the Hurley but I installed a dingy ramp on my 43 Open and had absolutely no issues with a 12’ rigid bottom and an older 15 hp 2 cycle Merc. I tied a pulley to the tender with the line going to the transom grab handle and could pull the dingy up with ease. When full of fuel and going onto plane the dingy would lift a couple inches and settle right back. Otherwise saw no issues in rough weather.

I can’t remember which model I purchased, may have been the XL but would expect the same results regardless.

Good luck and happy boating with that 42. Beautiful boats.

Thank you Admiral for your reply and comment on my brand new 42'!
I believe it was the XL since they recommend it for rigid bottom tenders...
Good luck to you and happy boating to you as well!
