I'm about to purchase a 3500 open w / Cummings diesels , generator and hardtop . Will a 20 K lift be enough for this vessel ? Or do I have to go up to a 24 K lift . I have a pretty good price for a 20 k lift but when I asked about upping the lift to a 24 K , the price went up substantially . So my question is , how much capacity do need ??? 20 K or 24 K ???? Oh yea, it'll just be my wife and myself onboard when on the lift . No kids .

Update , 13 July . Both of my surveys have been completed . All is really good , with the exception of a few minor issues . The owner has agreed to repair all issues . I expect to actually own the boat in another two weeks . The boat yard that lifted the boat out of the water , their lifts scale didn't work . Big disappointment , so I'm still hoping that someone could clue me in on what their boat weighs or what kind tonnage lift that a 3500 with a hardtop and generator would require .

I have the same boat and when I trucked mine I think it weighed out at around 21,500 and that was minimal stuff on board. It's been almost ten years ago but I'm pretty sure that was what I was told. I don't think I would consider a 20k lift. Maybe someone else will chime in.
We have a 35 Open with same engines. Live in Michigan and purchased a lift built by Timmerman Machining which is also a Michigan company. We bought the 40K lift which was not that much more in cost vs the 25K lift. It is very well built and works great. The priced for the 40K was about $5000 more than the 25K, worth doing for future options.
Thanks to all that chimed in . I settled on a 24K lift . 4 new pilings . It's not installed as of yet , but I have a few weeks time until CRACKERJACK reaches her new home port .
