Move AC Strainer
#1
On our 99 4000 Express, I find myself almost always thinking, “wow, Tiara thought of everything.” That is, except for the placement of the AC strainer under the floor in the trunk. Especially when it’s jellyfish season, having to tear apart the trunk and hang upside down is a total pain, so I’ve been considering moving it to the engine room.

You think I could leave the thru-hull and pump and just extend the hoses and move the strainer into the engine room? I know that would make a kind of lengthy run to and from the strainer but would obviously be the path of least resistance. If I did this, I’d probably have to add an inline valve just before the strainer so I could close off the supply from the thru-hull in the engine room.

Thoughts?

I agree it’s a pain in the arse. But I also know with thruhulls the shortest possible distance from the strainer to the thruhull is important. You’d appreciate this if the hose got clogged.

Yeah, I was afraid that was going to be the response. Definitely don’t want to fix one issue and create three more. I also don’t want to drill/fix holes in the hull, so I guess “live with it” is the way to go.

Was there supposed to be some content here, Bradford? I can't see anything.

They must have seen the problem with the A/C strainer under the starboard engine and updated the design for the 2003 38 Open. Mine is under the big fish well in the cockpit. Getting the fish well out requires 2 people however but easy to live with... Once removed access to A/C strainer & thru hull is easy.
