I'm looking at a 3600 Sovran and I'd like to learn from others what their opinion of this model is.
The cabin layout appears to be comfortable and just right for cruising and the engine compartment appears to offer very easy access to engines and other components.
My  questions are basically: are there any negatives to the model?
How does it handle rough seas? Are the Cummins 6CTA CE 480HP higher output engines reliable?
This will be my third Tiara model. Each time a little larger.

I have a 2006 Sovran with Cummins QSC 8.3s. We boat on the Great Lakes. The boat handles very well in the choppy seas we get on Lake Erie. We travel with friends who have a 44 Searay with the same engines. At the same RPM the boats go at the same speed. We handle the seas much better. We have taken 2 weeks trips and it is very livable. The trunk is great,

The only negative is the low swim platform. When at a dock, if there is a chop flowing into the stern of the boat it will pound under the platform.

Thank you for your reply. I think the only feature I don't like about the 3600 is the extra wide swim platform. I did not know about the water pounding underneath, I imagine it can be annoying. I realize the oversized platform is very useful when hauling a tender but it does, i feel, impair the the overall appearance of the boat.
But, I'm looking for the perfect cruiser for two and all other things considered, the 3600 looks pretty good. The 3900 is also in my sights but I need to learn more about maintenance and reliability of the IPS system and how far away a service tech is from me.

Are you in the States? They are extremely hard to find....only a handful for sale in the US at this time. Used Open's are much more prevalent....I'm still on the hunt and leaning towards the Open but there is something about the Sovran that keeps pulling me in that direction.

So I own a 2004 3600 Sovran. We bought it originally because of the great interior (Admiral loves it) and so we could do weekends on it. This is our 5th season with it:

1. The boat is a tank. Ive handled pretty gnarly seas going to Block Island and it doesnt matter. YES; there is water going over the bow. So I just turn on the windshield wipers.

2. the 480CE are hyped up 450 diamonds. To be safe; I run the boat at the GPH of the originally designed motor vs the 480 ... so I cruise around 2100 RPM vs 2250 RPM. Does it matter? I think so, but really thats just me being cautious.

3. We have taken her out in snow storms (by accident) and in the dead heat of summer. It just doesnt matter. We use her from April to October in New England. The fully enclosed helm allows that.

4. Zero issues with her. Sure, I have had to replace the raw water pump for the generator and I injested a plastic bag which blew out my impellers. But thats just the cost of doing business.

5. My friend runs a Sea Ray 44; he is a bit faster with basically the same engines (500 hp cummins vs my 480); it shows how solid these boats are.

6. Kids love it. They love the swim platform. Wife loves it. Friends love it. I love it

The ONLY thing I wish I had done; if I knew HOW much time we would spend on her ..... i wish I bought a bigger one. But its not worth selling it and buying a bigger one now; as we love her so much.
