Hoping to work on this generator that was pulled from a 4000 mid cabin express. Owner says it’s a 9.6kw Onan with a three cylinder Cummins (not cat lol) engine. Very unsure of its condition, the boat is made in 1995. Does anyone have suggestions with areas of the genny we should focus on? Or common/known issues?

See my other post. Onan is made by Cummins, not CAT. This guy you’re dealing with doesn’t know what he’s talking about and you should run like your life depends on it.

Very true, that was a misstatement on my part. The owner did say Cummins. Although I’d like to say I have free time on weekends to do the work, a second job might wind up filling that time. However to most effectively use any project time I’m here to learn from more experienced Tiara owners about where to focus the time.

What is wrong with the generator?

That era genset is probably an MKD prefix model. Marine Kubota engine, Diesel power.
