Hi I have a 31 Tiara open and have recently had both port and starboard risers replaced. Port engine is still running hot (195 degrees). I am guessing that the Raw water pump should be replaced. I wanted to get an idea on part and labor to remove and replace a port side RWP? Any help would be appreciated.
You did not say what year your 31 is or what model engines you have. I could replace the impeller in my '88 port 454 engine in less than 1 hour. The starboard engine is another story. Overheating can be an impeller, a thermostat, a plugged heat exchanger (oil or engine), the sea strainer or the intake screen. Change the impeller first and rerun your test. If that does not solve your problem it's time for a marine pro. Capt. George
Hi Mike check the hoses make sure they are on right, some may have bin swapped on the install.
Allso look for a pinched hose.
And everything Uhehner said sounds good.
First of all make sure you are actually overheating, I'm assuming you've confirmed this and aren't going by the gauges alone. Also, assuming you have made sure there's no blockages in the sea water strainers... If so, the impellers would be the next likely culprit, I'm not sure why you'd replace the whole pump unless it's failing otherwise, but the impellers to need frequent replacement. As to your particular question, I recently had BOTH my raw water pumps replaced and including parts and labor it was in the $600 range I believe. I had them replaced because one was leaking bad from the weep hole and rebuilding it was even more expensive than replacing it. I had the other one done just for peace of mind, it was over 10 years old anyway so, might as well!
